HODGKIN HIGHLANDERS PARENTS ASSOCIATION
The Hodgkin Highlanders Parents Association (HHPA) was formed in 1997 as a 501c(3), to promote Highland Dancing and support, morally and financially, area Highland dancers and their families. Membership is open to all families of dancers in the Hodgkin Highlanders School of Dance. Executive Board Meetings are held monthly. General Membership Meetings are held quarterly and include parent education on a range of topics. Our recent meetings featured education on “Packing for Competitions,” “What to Feed Your Dancer” and “How to Make the Perfect Bun.”
The HHPA conducts a variety of fundraisers, from their largest, the Robert Burns Dinner, to smaller candy sales and dance-a-thons. Funds raised have sponsored workshops with world-class instructors and medal exams for the entire studio and have paid for kilts, dance shoes, and swords for individual dancers.
The HHPA also sponsors a number of social events, including a summer picnic and the annual Hodgkin Highlanders awards dinner. HHPA members often coordinate travel plans to competitions and workshops, extending the social opportunities to less formal settings. They also offer a mentoring program for new dancers and their parents.
Finally, the HHPA keeps an annual yearbook of dancer events and achievements, including photos, clippings and memorabilia. At competitions, HHPA members gather together to cheer on ALL of our dancers.
